What Is the Biometric Pulse Test?

The biometric pulse test is an innovative at-home tool we've developed over twenty years of working with clients. How the Pulse Test Works

Your resting pulse rate is remarkably stable under normal conditions. When you eat a food your body reacts to, your pulse rate increases noticeably—often by 10-15 beats per minute or more. This happens because your body is mounting an inflammatory or stress response.

The test is simple:

  1. Establish your baseline. Before eating, sit quietly for 5 minutes. Take your resting pulse for 60 seconds. Record the number.
  2. Eat the test food. Consume a normal portion of the food you want to test (e.g., a serving of cheese, a handful of almonds, two eggs).
  3. Wait and retest. Sit quietly for 15-20 minutes. Retake your pulse for 60 seconds.
  4. Compare the results. If your pulse has increased by 6 or more beats per minute, that food is triggering a reaction. Avoid it for now and retest in a few weeks.

You test one food at a time, in isolation, to get a clear reading. If you eat cheese and tomatoes together, you won't know which one caused the reaction.

When to Use the Biometric Pulse Test

The ideal time to use this test is during your consolidation phase—the critical weeks immediately after finishing your active weight release programme.

This is when you're reintroducing foods like:

  • Dairy (cheese, yoghurt, milk, butter)
  • Eggs
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Higher-carb vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, pumpkin)
  • Certain fruits

Test each new food individually before making it a regular part of your diet. If your pulse spikes, that food stays off your plate for now. You can retest it in a month or two—sensitivities can shift as your body continues to heal.

Common Foods That Trigger Reactions

Over twenty years, we've seen consistent patterns. These foods frequently cause pulse increases in clients during consolidation:

  • Dairy: Particularly cheese and milk. Many people tolerate butter or ghee better than other dairy forms.
  • Eggs: Often reactive, especially for clients with autoimmune tendencies.
  • Nuts: Almonds and peanuts are common culprits. Macadamias and cashews tend to be better tolerated.
  • Tomatoes: Nightshade sensitivity is more common than people realise.
  • Soy products: Tofu and tempeh are usually fine during the programme, but processed soy (soy milk, soy protein isolate) can trigger reactions.
